This actually has to do with CS…. not Japanese. I just…. I just haven’t posted in a while. (I’m pretty bad at this…)
My partners and I have been going over our project. It’s funny how things go. At first we were all excited (we’re still excited, don’t worry) and we went a little mini game-crazy. Now we’re really focusing on the important parts of our TUI. I’d post pictures, but I don’t quite have any on my computer yet. (I don’t have a scanner. boo) But I will soon~!
Basically though, our TUI is about astronomy, more importantly planets and the such. So, we have tokens for all the planets, a person token, and a spaceship token. What we have planned is to have an opening. Somewhere for people to start. It would consist of the Surface screen with the Sun in the middle and faint orbital lines. The planet tokens are used as stamps. So, a person can just place the token on the screen and take it off, then a “stamped version” appears on the screen and that’s the part the user can move! When the planet stamp is placed on the correct orbit, the orbit line lights up and the planet starts moving in its orbit. It already sounds cool!
From there we have a couple of ideas. We were thinking to have the user be able to move the spaceship token onto a planet, as if the ship were going to visit it. Then from there the screen goes into a sort of medium view. here you just see the planet (and it’s moons…) the space ship is visiting. There will be some information about the planet and such. We were thinking that it would be a nice idea to be able to spin the planet, and move the text around for viewers standing on different sides of the Surface to be able to read.
Then we were thinking that the person token can be used to symbolize landing on the planet. This would be a close up view, as if the person were actually on the planet. There will also be more information in this mode, such as temperature and wind speed and so forth. We also thought it would be a nice touch to have things be responsive to touch. So when a user touches something on the screen a sound can be heard and/or text will appear explaining. I can just imagine little kids spreading their fingers all over the surface looking for more things to pop-up or make noise. :3
We’ve also been thinking about how to exit these modes. We thought it would be a nice touch if for on the “on the planet” mode the person token had to be on the surface. Then once the person token was taken off, the user would go back into the medium view. And the same thing with the space ship token to go back to the solar system mode. We’re not really sure how intuitive that is though. So we were thinking of having a control panel of sorts where, depending on the mode, somethings would light up as buttons than can be pressed and non-lit up buttons can’t be pressed (or if pressed, nothing happens). We were also thinking that once the planets have been placed in the right orbit…. how would a different user be able to get back to that mode? We were thinking that maybe on the control panel, there would be a reset button (maybe called “the big crunch” or something) so that a new user can try to place the planets in the right order.
This would be much more interesting with pictures~ (And our pictures are pretty cool too!) But that will be later~! For now, it’ll just have to be text. I’m going to try and post more often~
